August; named after the Emperor Augustus who chose this month because it was the time of several of his great triumphs, including the conquest of Egypt. Founder of the Roman Empire his legacy is that of one of the greatest leaders in human history. His time in power is identified as an era of imperial peace largely free from large scale conflict.  He reformed the Roman system of taxation, developed a network of roads, established a standing army, official police and fire fighting services for Rome and rebuilt most of the city.

So no pressure then!!   Tomorrow the Senior Men will take to the battle ground of Hawkfield as they look to overcome the challenge presented by Leixlip.  The match takes place at 16:30 and tickets must be purchased in advance.

U16s are free, why not get out there and support them?

On Sunday morning the U12 hurlers play Naas in Athgarvan and the Minor hurlers take on St Laurences at home on Tuesday evening.

The Senior Ladies are in action against Athy at home on Tuesday evening and Wednesday sees the Senior Reserves start their Championship campaign against Confey at 19:30.

Who knows what Emperor Augustus had to deal with in developing the road networks or rebuilding the city, but we faced the first of our setbacks this week as we are reminded that Covid is still having an impact.  On a positive note, some groups are in a position to make use of the top pitch for an extra few days but we do hope to get work under way this coming week.

I would also imagine Emperor Augustus faced some challenges when reforming the taxation system as he endeavoured to raise money to develop his roads and rebuild the city.  Our very own Emperor Joe, is finding it extremely difficult to both get funds in and give them out in a balanced and measured way to benefit everyone equally.  With Club Draw tickets available for purchase and the upcoming Two Mile House Golf Classic taking place on the 26th August, fundraising is a much-maligned necessity.  It is something, without which, there would be no club and that is just for day to day running costs.  As difficult as it is to take it in, Emperor Joe is not finding it easy to give away either with the Lotto Jackpot now standing at €9200.  He did manage to reward Martin McKeogh and Ed Cahill for their persistence with a win in the lucky dip draw.  To do your bit, and help Joe out, you can play Lotto by clicking the link below or either buy a Club Draw ticket or enter a team in the Golf Classic by simply contacting any member of the Executive.  Unfortunately, he won't build this city on rock and roll so we do need help!

Finally, I have attached our updated Club Crest.  Our recently appointed Irish Language and Culture Officer, Rachael Ui Bhaoill has done much research into the correct translation of Two Mile House and, with the very generous help of the Graphic Designers in Outside the Box Learning Resources, we will now be using the above new crest across the club.  You may also note an increase in the Gaelige o am go h-am as sin amach, apologies in advance it may not be quite right my Gaelige comes from a time fadó, fadó.😉

Go raibh mile maith agaibh leis on obair!

Slán agus beannacht.
